Accreditation Committee Report

National Day of Prayer
National Day of Prayer Field Trip will be Thursday, May 3 from 7:45am-2:30pm. We will be at the abortion clinic, City Hall and In-n-Out for lunch. There are only 18 spots. Permission slips are available in the High School Office.

Class of 2013 Parent/Student Information Meeting
We will be having a Senior Parent information night on Thursday, May 3 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the South Sanctuary. Every junior and their parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. We will be discussing information regarding senior portraits, senior expenses, 2013 Israel Trip and much more. Please mark your calendar because you don’t want to miss this night!

Night of the Arts
The CCCS High School Choir would like to invite you to attend this year’s “Night of the Arts.”  The theme will be “A Theater Near You” and the choir will be presenting music from various Broadway musicals, T.V. shows and movies.  Performances will be in the Main Sanctuary Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5.  Performances begin at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $5 each (children 5 and under are free) and can be purchased in the High School Office or “at the door” on the evening of the performance.  CD’s from previous “Night of the Arts” Concerts and Christmas Jubilee Concerts will be available for $5 at the event.

AP Testing 
Those students enrolled in AP classes will take the   AP Tests from May 7-14 according to the following schedule: May 7, Chemistry; May 8, Spanish Language; May 9, Calculus; May 10, English Literature & Composition; May 14, Physics. An $87/per AP Test fee will appear on your May tuition bill.

Prom 2012 Update
Tickets, directions and picture packets were distributed to those students who are attending.  The Prom will be held at The Disneyland Hotel in the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion in Anaheim on Friday, May 11 from 5:30pm – 10:00pm.    

No School
Due to the 11th/12th grade prom, there will be no school on Friday, May 11. The office will be closed.

After Prom Events
Please note that CCCS does not sponsor after prom or graduation parties.  It is our heart’s desire that your child will enjoy the Prom, the events that follow and that Christ be honored in all that is said and done.  With this in mind, take the time to be involved in the decision making process with your child and prayerfully consider what the healthiest environment to celebrate these occasions is. It might be helpful to review the section on “Discipline” in our on-line Parent Student Handbook.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Spirit Point Picnic
Each year our classes compete for spirit points.      The students have many opportunities to receive spirit points by participating in dress up days, winning     pep rally games, and contributing to any donation requests throughout the school year. We would like    to congratulate the senior class for their outstanding display of school spirit. On Tuesday, May 15, the seniors will be awarded with a day off from school while they spend the day at Bolsa Chica State Beach . We are in need of chaperones, if you are a senior parent and would love to spend the day at the beach with your student, please contact Julie Garcia at   jgarcia@calvarydowney.org or (562)299-9111.

Culinary Arts Cookbook
Are you looking for a great gift to give your mom for Mother’s Day?  Our Culinary Arts Cookbook is available for purchase; the cost is $15 for an individual book, or $10 each when purchasing two or more books.  Please contact Mrs. Boglione at dboglione@calvarydowney.org for more information.

CCEA Worship, Music and Fine Art Festival
Saturday, May 19, 2:00pm–7:00pm, Calvary Chapel Whittier Calvary Chapel Educators Association will be presenting “A Night of Worship Music and Fine Arts” for all music students who have a desire to share their musical and artistic talents. The night will   features instrumental and vocal Worship Ensembles (group and solo) as well as visual Art works, by participating Christian Schools. All participants will be judged and awarded a certificate for their efforts. Students interested in participating must register by the May 5 deadline. The entry fee is $15 for each student and the event is free to all who want to attend the event. Students who are interested in participating should contact Mr. Reyes in the Music Department.

Junior/Senior Fellowship Night
Each year the junior class plans a special time of fellowship for the graduating seniors. This year the Jr./Sr. Fellowship will be held on Monday, May 21 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. The cost is $12 per junior.  The seniors are our guests, and thus, they are free; however, they will need to sign up in order to ensurea meal.  We are in need of junior parents to help at this event, if you are available please contact Julie Garcia at (562)299-9111.

Jazz at the Mission Cafe  
Friday, May 25, 6:30pm – 9:00pm.  Join the High School Stage Band as they entertain you for a night of Jazz, Rock, Standard and Gospel music. Admission is free.

Senior Pep Rally
On Friday, May 25, join us in the Grizzly Gym to bid our last farewell to the senior class of 2012. This event will take place from 7:50am-8:50am.  Parents are invited.

Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, there will be no school and the office will be closed.

Senior Voyage Boards
The Senior Voyage Board is a project board with pictures that will show us your son or daughter’s voyage through life. We display the boards at the Senior Parent Breakfast.  Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to commemorate your student’s milestones. Voyage Boards are due on Wednesday, May 30. Please drop off your voyage board in the High School Office. If you have any questions please contact Julie Garcia at (562)299-9111.

If you submitted an Ad for Grad, you can pick up your photos from the High School Office.

Senior Final Transcripts
Beginning May 29, seniors may sign up on the “Senior Final Transcript Request” sheet in the High School Office. Finalized transcripts will be distributed by the end of June. Please note that your student’s final transcripts will not be released until your account has been paid in full.

Referral Program
Attention Parents!  CCCS is pleased to be able to offer an additional tuition discount to any current family who refers a new family to our school.  If you refer a new family and they enroll in our school, you will receive a tuition credit worth $400 per student referred on your 2012/2013 tuition!   This is a great way to introduce your friends and family members to our school AND save some of the cost of your tuition.  For more details contact the school office or visit our website at www.cccsdowney.org.

Textbook Exchange
CCCS will be hosting our annual Parent Textbook Exchange/Sale on Tuesday, June 12, in the gym from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.  Parents attending this event may buy, sell, and exchange textbooks with other CCCS parents.  This is a great opportunity to save money. Don’t miss it!  More information will be available soon.

Class Book Buyback Event
On Tuesday, June 19, CCCS will be holding our annual Textbook Buyback Event with ClassBook.com. This event is for those who wish to sell their textbooks back to Class Book; no textbooks for purchase at this event.  It will be held in the gym from 2:00pm-6:00pm.

Summer School
Summer School packets are now available in the High School Office. Classes being considered are: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and Drawing. Sign-ups will run through Friday, June 8. For more information see Mrs. Cotton.
