Our Faculty

Mr. Cuneo has a Bachelors degree in Music and a California Teachers Credential from California State University of Los Angeles as well as a Masters Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University. With 37 years as a professional musician and 27 years as a music educator, Mr. Cuneo teaches instrumental music classes for Kindergarten through 12th grade. He has been with the CCCS family for 6 years.

Betsy Ayala has been part of our CCCS family for the past 28 years. Alongside her husband, Mrs. Ayala raised her children here and continues to be a mentor to many in her role as our Master Teacher for the 4th and 5th grades. She is currently teaching at the 4th grade level where she is a tremendous role model to the children the Lord entrusts to her care.

Mrs. Craft has served at Calvary Chapel Downey in various ministries over the past 16 years. She currently works alongside her husband as they oversee the Convalescent Ministry at CCD. Mrs. Craft joined the faculty at Calvary Chapel Christian School in 2005 and has completed a number of workshops and specified teacher trainings. She is truly thankful for the Lord for equipping her to fulfill His objectives in her ministry here. She currently teaches at the 3rd grade level.

Debbie Davis’ passion for seeing students succeed has led her to become an advocate for special needs students. She has directed and taught our C.A.R.E. (Christ Centered Approach to Reading Education) here for more than twenty years. Mrs. Davis raised her own two children at CCCS and has been instrumental with assisting administration in many areas at the school.

Mrs. Draper joined our staff in 1998 as a substitute and began teaching kindergarten the following year. Since then she has taught kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. Mrs. Draper developed a service club for elementary students, the "Maranatha Kids Club" where Christian service is emphasized by not only encouragement, but pratical service application in the everyday lives of participating students. As true with all of our administration and faculty, Mrs. Draper's true desire is to train and mold Christian leaders for the ever challenging futures which await them.

Kristie Elsasser has taught Kindergarten at Calvary Chapel Christian School for 21 years.  She is a dedicated teacher that strives to help every student entrusted to her to achieve positive, spiritual, mental, and physical growth.  Mrs. Elsasser desires to grow as a professional educator so that she will always be equipped to greatly impact her students in achieving Godly excellence.

Mrs. Hey successfully completed the Early Childhood Education program at Cerritos College and began working 29 years ago with children of all ages- infants through Seniors. Her ministry service began here at Calvary Chapel Christian School 13 years ago. Since then, she has attended numerous training and workshops, with extensive training from Bob Jones on the Passport Learning Reading and Math computer programs. Mrs. Hey oversees our Passport Learning program here at CCCS. This program prescribes specific assignments to meet students at their current academic level while building additional skills to an automatic rate which promotes better comprehension. The Passport program has enriched the learning of hundreds of Calvary students.

Mrs. Kemblowski attended Cerritos College where she earned an Associate of Arts degree. She has been teaching at Calvary Chapel Christian School for the past 10 years. Mrs. Kemblowski has enjoyed teaching our 5th grade classes and has had the pleasure of watching her students graduate since 2010.

Mrs. Leonard has been coming to CCCS every school day for most of her lifetime. Not only is she on faculty now, but she also attended school here, just like her current students! Mrs. Leonard is credentialed through National University, and completed a decade of substitute teaching with the Downey Unified School District prior to answering the Lord’s call to Christian Education and coming on board here at Calvary. Since then, she has taught 6 years in the first grade and is currently teaching at the 5th grade level.

Mrs. Valuet has taught in Christian Schools for more than 30 years. She joined our faculty at Calvary Chapel Christian School ten years ago where she currently teaches one of our second grade classes. In addition, she leads worship on Wednesdays for Elementary Chapel. Mrs. Valuet holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Mrs. Velasco earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Long Beach. She has been teaching 1st grade at Calvary Chapel Christian School for 12 years. Mrs. Velasco is currently the Master Teacher for Kindergarten and 1st grade. She also works closely with our Pre-School alongside Ms. Perucho, our Pre-School Director to ensure a seamless transition from our Pre-school into kindergarten at CCCS.

Lisa Vukovich has been attending Calvary Chapel Downey for the past 19 years where she enjoys being involved in Children’s Ministries. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. In 2001, Lisa began ministering at CCCS as a Substitute Teacher. Since then, she has gone on to teach full time Pre-K, 2nd grade and is currently teaching 3rd grade. In addition to teaching, she also serves in a leadership roll as the Master Teacher for 2nd and 3rd grade. Mrs. Vukovich adores her students and enjoys training them academically and spiritually in the ways of the Lord.

Marla Webb earned an Early Childhood Education Certificate and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts/General Studies at Cerritos College, Norwalk, California. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, Teaching Credential and a Masters in Education from Hope International University in Fullerton, California. She has attended Calvary Chapel Church for over 30 years and has taught various grade levels over a six year period at Calvary Chapel Christian School in Downey, California. The last 13 years she has taught K5 (5 years) and Kindergarten for 9 years. Once married (for 22 years) and now with two grown children enjoys spending time with them in various ministries and helping out where needed at Calvary Chapel Downey.
